Objective
In this assignment, you will investigate into the fundamental concepts of statistics by examining measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion for both discrete and continuous data. You will use real-world datasets to perform statistical analysis, gaining practical experience in data interpretation.
REQUIREMENT
Part A: Measures of Central Tendency
- Select two datasets: one containing discrete data and the other containing continuous data. You may obtain datasets from reputable sources, such as government statistics websites, academic databases, or create your own if applicable. Ensure that each dataset has at least 30 data points.
Provide a brief introduction to each dataset, including its source and context. Calculate and present the following measures of central tendency for each dataset:
- Mean
- Median
- Mode
Interpret the results by discussing what each measure of central tendency signifies in the context of the data. Compare and contrast the central tendencies of the two datasets. Explain any notable differences.
Part B: Measures of Dispersion
- Calculate and present the following measures of dispersion for each dataset:
- Range
- Variance
- Standard Deviation
- Interquartile Range (IQR)
2. Create appropriate visualizations to represent the dispersion in each dataset. You can use histograms or frequency polygon to visualize the spread of data.
3. Interpret the results by discussing what each measure of dispersion reveals about the data’s variability. Compare and contrast the dispersions of the two datasets. Identify any significant distinctions.

- 80% of individuals who had elective procedures chose private hospitals.
Calculate the probability that a randomly selected individual had an elective procedure but chose a government hospital.
e.Are having an elective procedure and choosing a private hospital independent events? Explain your reasoning.
